LATEST UPDATE: The Federal Government N-POWER Empowerment Programme

Hello people! I like to welcome you back to my diary.  This time, I will be updating you on one of my previous post where I talked about the federal government N-power empowerment scheme as initiated by the Buhari led administration. If you carefully read through that first post on the subject matter, you will realize that
I have my reservations; this is however not to say that the initiative is not applaudable. You may like to read the post HERE then come back to this for update-in order not to miss the genesis of the story.

On Wednesday, 14th September 2016, it was reported that the N-power scheme which is best tagged as a social investment programme being initiated by the apex tier of government to engage an amount of 500,000 learned persons plus another 100,000 beginners eventually received an aggregate amount of 749,000 interests from citizens upon the closure of the portal as at 31st August. This was disclosed to journalist in Abuja by Mrs Maiam Uwais; who happens to be the special assistance to the presidency on social investment scheme.

According to her revelation, processing the applications from the 774 LGAs of the country, statistics show that states like Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, and Bauchi displayed high reception of the N-Power idea through massive applications. The idea according to her is that applicants will be put through cognitive training according to their interest as identified on their forms. The one month training proceeding is slated to commence by October before which all successful shortlisted applicants would have been contacted. The interesting part was when she confirmed that all applicants will be provided with a training device (personal laptop containing all instructional materials and manuals) and will be theirs during and after the training elapse.

After the one month training, applicants will thereafter be deployed to their states in order to provide extension services in their community for 24 calendar months in the various fields as being trained; and during which the Federal Government will pay them stipends estimated at about N23,000. According to Uwais, the three available categories for the scheme are; Paid Volunteer Teacher Corps for Graduate (N-Power Corps), Training and Empowerment for Knowledge Work (N-power Knowledge), Build Nigeria Program for Training and Empowerment of Artisans (N-power Build).

The Buhari led government will be getting it right this time by aiding the helpless youth if it is able to actualize this vision because it will help beneficiaries with some invaluable opportunities which will thus project the change agenda in their local community and the nation at large in terms of immerse economic contributions while developing their preferred skills. It will further reduce the problem of insufficiency of skilled personnel in various sectors of the economy and promote independence and self-reliance.

All these being said, a new problem thus beckons. How will the planners of the N-power programme deal with the case of the remaining 149,000 unlucky applicants since the scheme can only accommodate 600,000 and 749,000 applied?
